Arctic Threatened by Postponement of Polar Bear Decision

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Well, the decision to make polar bears “Threatened” under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) has been postponed for 1 month by the Fish and Wildlife Service. This gives the Bush Administration the time they need to sell the polar bear habitat along the Chukchi Sea for oil and gas development on Feb. 6.

Drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge would threaten the most important land-based habitat that America’s polar bears have left.

Please urge your Senators and Representative to permanently safeguard the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge by designating it as federally protected wilderness take action online now at. To sign a petition to stop the Arctic Drilling lease sales, click Stop The Drilling

Thanks for your help. Here’s a great picture of a polar bear for your enjoyment.

Knut Goes Hollywood

Monday, January 7th, 2008

Yes, Cute Knut, the little polar bear who was abandoned by his mother and raised by humans is going to be even more famous. Hollywood film producer, Ash R. Shah, who produced the movie Garfield Gets Real, is in negotiations with the Berlin Zoo to have Knut star in his latest animated film.

Shah has offered an initial $100,000 down payment for the rights with a total contact that could run $5m paid out over two years. That would be great news for the Zoo and could help expand Knut’s den and make other improvements to the zoo’s exhibit.

Knut, who just turned 1 year old on Dec. 5, 2007 is already famous beyond belief. He is Germany’s Ambassador for Global Warming, has stuffed bears with his likeness sold world-wide, shared magazine covers with movie stars, had death threats and body guards, hundreds of cartoons and thousands of articles written about him, and is a You-Tube star. In short, how could he get more famous, you ask. Well, an animated movie will reach even a wider and younger audience.

Here’s a cute Knut picture at 1 year old (he’s grown a tad. LOL). For more pictures and stories of his birth and rise to fame, check out my older blogs at: Knut’s Life and Times.
