Debbie, who last year at the age of 41was entered into the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest living polar bear, was euthanized yesterday. She was born in 1966 in the Russian Arctic. She was sent to the Assiniboine Park Zoo in Winnipeg, Canada ion 1967.
Debby had been under constant care the past couple of months and died surrounded by zoo keepers ajd veterinarians. She will be sorely missed by the zoo personnel as well as the public, many who grew up visiting her at the zoo and bringing their children and grandchildren to see her.

In the wild, polar bears live about 20 years. In captivity the range is 30 to 40 years.
See previous blog post on Debbie at Debbie.
Bear hugs, Frankie
