Hand Raising Twin Polar Bear Cubs

If you’ve never heard about Klondike and Snow, you’ve really missed something. They were the first 2 polar bear cubs ever raised by hand. The cubs were born on November 6, 1994 and rejected by their mother. They were taken to the Zoo’s hospital and the staff raised them until they were old enough to be weaned (about 5 months old). The care of these two cubs was documented on film and in a book. The book is a must read for any polar bear lover.

For more info on the book, click Knondike and Snow

Although it is advertised for 9 to 12 year olds, I love it. I re-read and/or look at the pictures every couple of months. It is truly fascinating, entertaining, educational and just downright fun. The pictures are absolutely wonderful and start with them in incubators and includes pictures of them when they are tiny, on their backs, howling because they can’t turn themselves over. LOL

I highly recommend getting the book no matter what age you are. It also makes a wonderful gift for any animal lover.

Bear hugs, Frankie
